Trail riding near Zagreb: how to prepare yourself and your horse

Trail riding is one of the most beautiful ways to spend time with a horse. Nature, quiet and the rhythm of the walk relax both horse and rider — but only when both are prepared.

A trail horse should stand still for mounting, stop calmly and follow another horse without rushing. If your horse rarely leaves the arena, start with short outings and groundwork in new places.

Check your own gear: helmet, suitable footwear, layers for changing weather and a phone. Check the horse's tack too — saddle, bridle, shoes or hoof boots.

On the trail, ride in single file, keep one horse length apart and tell others before changing pace. With new obstacles (a stream, a tractor, a bike) give the horse time to look and don't force it.

At Black Horse Ranch in Pušća, rides are led by Tom and Davor through the forests and meadows around the ranch. You bring your horse, we guide you. Book with Davor at +385 95 905 3348.
