Horse training: building a plan your horse understands
Good horse training rarely fails because the horse is stubborn; it fails because the plan is unclear. Horses learn in tiny steps: every lesson needs one goal, one clear signal and one moment of release that tells the horse it got it right.
How to build the plan
Start by writing down where you are today: what the horse already knows, where it braces and where it loses focus. Then break the goal into the smallest possible steps. If you want calm trailer loading, the plan does not start at the trailer — it starts with standing still, walking over a board and following a person without pulling.
Three rules that always apply
One lesson, one goal. End on a success, however small. Consistency beats intensity: fifteen minutes every day is worth more than two hours once a week.
The K3P method sees training as a chain: communication builds trust, trust builds respect, and respect brings willingness. When one link breaks, the problem shows at the end of the chain — but the cause is always earlier.
